Synopsis

Begin Again is an immersive, narrative-driven game that puts you in the shoes of Anno, an ordinary student struggling to come to terms with a lost relationship, and the pressures of leading a normal life in an extraordinary time.

Through a series of interactive choices and challenges, you will guide Anno through his personal struggles and help him find a way to begin again.

Along the way, you will encounter characters each with their own unique story and perspective on the world and its impact on their lives.

As you progress through the game, you will be faced with decisions that will shape Anno’s journey and determine his fate.

In the backdrop, you will experience the spiralling downfall of the United Republic, the rise of the Greater Terran Empire, and ultimately the second Unification War.

With rich, immersive storytelling and a dynamic, branching narrative, Begin Again offers a unique gaming experience that will challenge your mind and touch your heart.

Gameplay

The game utilizes a unique blend of chat-like and visual novel gameplay, allowing players to actively shape the narrative by making choices that impact the story’s outcome. This gameplay style draws inspiration from the choose-your-own-adventure genre and provides an immersive, interactive experience for players.

EXPERIMENTAL:
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are being experimented with, but it is not yet clear if these features will be included in the final game.

Setting

Begin Again is set in a fictional world that draws inspiration from the prosperous and culturally rich era (golden twenties) of the first German Republic, the German Democratic Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany, mixed with the ideals of the Taishō Democracy.

The game takes place in the late stages of the fictional United Republic of Nations, which experienced a period of artistic and intellectual exploration, financial stability, and personal freedom. However, the years have not been kind to the Republic, and it now finds itself in a time of turbulence, marked by revolutions, rebellions, political extremism, and attempted coups.

As the game progresses, the United Republic experiences a rapid downfall, resulting in the ”Night of a Thousand Blades”, and ending in the transformation of the Republic into the Greater Terran Empire. The fate of the state is forever changed by the events that unfold, and players will have to navigate the impact of these changes as they guide Anno.
